Amy Hutcheson

Amy Hutcheson

Southern roots brought this Michigan native south to the Memphis College of Art. After graduation and for the past five years Memphis has been home.

"Inspiration to an artist is ethereal. It cannot be pinned down and it can change daily. For me, inspiration comes from journal writings, life experiences, color, texture, and above all teaching. There can be peace in the creative process but there can be turmoil as well. That push and pull is so exciting in life and in the creative process. How much to give up and how much to hold. Experimentation of different colors, surfaces, and mediums is exciting but can be equally frustrating. I love adding text to my pieces as it explains to the audience my experience while creating the piece. I read and agree that artists are problem finders even more so than problem solvers."
